Influenza vaccinations for working-age people
Influenza vaccinations for working-age people
A working-age person belonging to a high-risk group due to illnesses of their own, or illnesses of people close to them, or due to treatment of these illnesses, is vaccinated free of charge by a health centre. The possibility of influenza vaccination can also be inquired from the occupational health services.
If you have questions about vaccinations or want to give feedback, please contact the health centre in your municipality of residence. Alternatively, you can also contact us through our feedback form.
Influenza risk groups:
- personnel of social and health care as well as pharmaceutical services (participants in the immediate care of the client)
- pregnant women
- everyone aged 65 and above
- children aged from 6 months to 6 years
- people belonging to high-risk groups because of an illness or treatment
- men starting their national service and women starting voluntary military service
- people close to those most at risk of serious influenza
- persons working In farms breeding fur animals
- persons working with poultry
- official veterinarians
- laboratory technicians who take or process avian influenza samples
- other persons at high risk of contracting an avian influenza infection due to their work or other circumstances.
It is possible to receive the Covid-19 vaccine at the same time as the influenza vaccine if you belong to the target group of the Covid-19 vaccinations and have not received a Covid-19 booster vaccine or been infected with the coronavirus within 6 months.
This season, an alternative vaccine is also available for those over 50 years of age who are severely immunosuppressed. The Fluad Tetra vaccine, which contains a booster, is offered to immunocompromised individuals. The vaccine is likely to give them better and longer protection than the Vaxigrip Tetra vaccine without a booster.
If you belong to a group that is offered an influenza vaccine containing a booster, you may choose the vaccine on the vaccination appointment if an influenza vaccine with a booster is available. The availability of the new vaccine is limited.
If you do not belong to a high-risk group and want to pay for the vaccine yourself, ask your occupational health services or your own health centre for a prescription. Some employers also offer influenza vaccinations to those not at high risk. Check the practice of your own workplace from your employer.
If the egg allergy is mild or regular and you have not had a serious reaction to egg, you will be vaccinated against influenza normally.
If you have had a life-threatening reaction to egg in the past and you still have an adrenaline pen in use in case of a severe reaction, you can be vaccinated against influenza, but the follow-up period is two hours after the vaccination. If you belong to a group of people at risk of a serious influenza, influenza vaccination is recommended. If necessary, contact your own health centre to agree on the time of vaccination.

Further information

You can book an appointment with the health centre for an injection with the vaccine which you have bought beforehand.
If you are seriously allergic to egg, you must make your own personal vaccination appointment. An appointment will be booked at the nurse’s office to arrange for a two-hour follow-up. Persons with severe allergies will not be vaccinated during pop-up days, and no online appointments can be made for them. The appointment must take place during office hours, between 9.00 am. and 2.00 pm. The monitoring period being two hours, no vaccinations can be administered later on (for example at 3 pm), because the duty doctor will no longer be available.
