Personal assistance, that is the assistance service, is necessary help for the person with serious disabilities at home and outside the home:

  • in the daily activities
  • work and studies
  • hobbies
  • civic participation
  • maintaining social interaction

The purpose of personal assistance is to help persons with serious disabilities realise their dreams and choices in different areas of life.

The service can be organised in different ways. They include the employer model, in which the person with serious disabilities acts as an employer, or with a service voucher, or by purchasing it from a private service provider. The different methods may be combined.

The service is free of charge for the client.

The wellbeing services county of Southwest Finland offers this service starting from 1 January 2023.

Requirements

A person with serious disabilities may receive personal assistance if it is necessary to manage daily tasks.

User instruction

Apply for personal assistance, that is the assistance service, at the disability services in your municipality of residence. The social worker will assess the method of implementation of the service together with you.

The service can also be arranged with a service voucher.
