Prescription renewal

The prescriptions are primarily renewed at the unit treating you. You may renew your prescription at a doctor's appointment, in which case the prescription will be valid immediately.

If renewing your prescription doesn't require a doctor's appointment, you can ask for the prescription to be renewed in one of the following ways:

  • Send an electronic request for a renewal through Kela's MyKanta -online service (requires identification with bank identifiers or a mobile ID.
  • Visit the health station.
  • Call the health station.
  • Ask for your prescription to be renewed at a pharmacy. The pharmacy will refer the renewal request to the person, who wrote the prescription.
  • Please note, that the request to renew a prescription may take up to 8 days.
  • The doctor may not necessarily renew your prescription, if they don't have sufficient information on your medication or health.

Charge information

A pharmacy may charge a fee for renewing a prescription.

The requests for prescription renewals should be always delivered to the unit, that has been treating you.

User instruction

You may renew your prescription at a doctor's appointment, in which case the prescription will be valid immediately. If the prescription renewal doesn't require seeing a doctor, ask for a renewal at the electronic MyKanta -service, contact the health station in your town of residence, or ask a pharmacy to refer the request for a renewal to the person, who wrote the prescription.
